“Scoliosis” is one of those words that every stops and looks when they hear it roll off some one’s lips regardless if it’s in the middle of a crowded room or sitting outside at a quiet café. Perhaps it’s because of the condition’s relatively mysterious and unknown origins or maybe it’s because virtually everybody knows at least one person with the neuro-muscular condition (it does affect almost 5% of the population).

Scoliosis is technically defined as a lateral bending of the spine that creates a spinal curvature that is larger than 10 degreed, but the surprising fact is that the spinal curvature itself is actually the primary symptom of scoliosis! I know it sounds crazy, but it’s true the spinal curvature itself is the primary sign and symptom of scoliosis; allow me to explain.

Scoliosis is a multi-factorial condition in which genetic pre-disposition and environmental factors combine to generate an abnormal neurological adaptation to spinal alignment during adolescent (mostly females) during times of rapid growth spurts. Thus, the true cause of idiopathic scoliosis is the environmental triggers that activate the genetic pre-disposition and unleash the cascade of events leading to scoliosis brace treatment and scoliosis surgery.

Some of the other concerns in terms of signs and symptoms of scoliosis include spinal deformity and pulmonary function (ability to breathe). While these are certainly valid concerns, the former is primarily a cosmetic concern and the latter is only valid in extremely severe scoliosis and almost never fatal if the spinal curvature developed after the age of 5 years old. In contrast, the very scoliosis treatments that are intended to halt curve progression (scoliosis braces) and correct the curvature (scoliosis surgery) often increase the amount of spinal deformity and further reduce the vital breathing capacity.

One topic under the banner of “signs and symptoms of scoliosis” that receives little to no attention are the quality of life concerns of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in adulthood. Recent research has discovered that adults with scoliosis spine curves 10 degrees or greater scored lower on 7 out of 8 major quality of life categories in comparison to a non-scoliosis adult population. These categories included physical functioning, general health, social functioning, and body pain among others. The researchers even concluded “adult scoliosis is becoming a medical condition with significant impact, affecting the fastest growing segment of the population of our society to a previously unrecognized degree.”

It’s clear that the signs and symptoms of scoliosis are generally dismissed or ignored in the general health care area and a significant number of our teenagers are having their life’s significantly impacted in a profound and adverse manner. Increased scoliosis screenings, both in terms of prevalence and effectiveness, need to come to the forefront if we are ever going to move scoliosis treatment into a pro-active health care model, rather than the reactive health care model currently in place.

[ad]

Viruses and bacteria are typically the cause for eye infections. The most common type of eye infection is called conjunctivitis or “pink eye.” People who wear contacts have a higher chance of getting an eye infection. This is normally because contacts can have bacteria on them, and if the contacts are not cleaned properly, the bacteria can attack the outer lining of the eye. Other types of eye infections are caused by air-born pathogens and sexually transmitted diseases. Regardless, many eye infections can be naturally cured with home remedies.

Symptoms of an Eye Infection

The most common symptom of an eye infection is redness around the iris. This is usually the main symptom for pink eye. Also, the eyelids can become inflamed and appear swollen. If you have swollen eyelids, it is usually a sign of a sty infection. A sty infection occurs when the tiny oil glands on the eyelids become infected. A sty usually causes discomfort, and the pain can range from mild discomfort to severe pain. Here are some other symptoms associated with an eye infection:

treat eye infection

Itchiness

White discharge

Yellow or green discharge

Swelling

Blurry vision

Watery eyes

Luckily, these symptoms do not pose a dangerous threat to a person’s overall health. However, these symptoms are miserable to deal with. Most of these symptoms are associated with multiple types of eye infections.

Home Remedies for Different Types of Eye Infections

There are many natural ways to heal an eye infection. Since a virus or bacteria cause almost every type of infection, there are many home remedy treatments that can be used. Boric acid eyewash is very effective for treating common and even rare eye infections. Mix water and boric acid eye wash to clean the bacteria on your eyes. Good hygiene can treat watery eyes, a common symptom with eye infections. If you suffer from a sty, place tea bags that have been soaked in warm water on your eye. Tea bags contain herbs that naturally heal infections. Aloe vera also has healing agents in it. Soak a cloth with water and aloe vera juice. The aloe vera will help sooth your dry, itchy eyes. Other types of home remedies include:

Honey

Cold bread

Coriander seeds

Tears

Guava leaves

[ad]

Most of these natural home remedies need to be mixed with warm water, but some of them, like honey and bread, can be placed directly on the eye. Allow your tears to naturally clean and moisten your eyes.

Even though these are simple ways to cure an eye infection, it can take a while for you to see results. There are simple things you can do to prevent an eye infection. For starters, avoid close contact with someone who has pink eye. Second, do not touch your eyes without washing your hands first. The oils from your hands can cause an infection. Lastly, you should eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. They contain essential vitamins to help your body fight bacteria and viruses.

Most important for diabetespatients is early diagnosis, as this can prevent the effects of the diabetes. The hardest part here is that most of the symptoms of diabetes are not really clear as being symptoms.

Some diabetes symptoms include:
- Frequent urination
- Excessive thirst
- Extreme hunger
- Unusual weight loss
- Increased fatigue
- Unexplainable Irritability
- Blurry vision

If you have one or more of these diabetes symptoms, it is better that you consult your docter. You can also take this Online Diabetes Risk Test to find out if you are at risk for diabetes.
