Many people around the world lead a stressful life and if you are one of them, you can try meditation. Meditation has the power to transform your life and make a huge difference. It is however essential to know how to meditate in a proper manner for best results. Meditation must also be practiced on a regular basis. There are many meditation methods and techniques taught by different masters.

meditation to beat stress

It is important for you to know the right method to ensure that your meditation is effective. In other words, if you know the right meditation techniques then you should be able to do them effortlessly. With many types of meditations taught today, it is up to you to choose ones that you are comfortable with. Meditation can provide you with ultimate relaxation and aid with your spiritual growth.

Meditation is a natural activity that keeps you connected to your deeper inner self. If you meditate on a regular basis, you will find yourself making important decisions with better clarity. You will get connected to your inner powers and enjoy greater clarity with regard to your surroundings through guided meditation. Earlier, saints used to meditate in order to remain connected to the higher powers or God. Today, many take to meditation to get rid of their day to day anxiety and stress.

Any meditation done for stress relief and good health is designed to relax your senses. It is important to keep your back straight while meditating. Choose the best technique to ensure optimum health and fitness. Many meditation instructors will first ask you to concentrate on a point with closed eyes.

As you practice meditation techniques, choose an area that is very calm and peaceful. This is important because while you meditate, there should not be any disturbance that may distract you. It is important to set a time which will be dedicated only for meditation. You might have a busy schedule but you can at least spend ten to fifteen minutes on meditation. You will be surprised to see the results after a few months of regular meditation. Here are a few steps to follow while meditating:

meditation to beat stress

First get comfortable with the meditation you choose. Only then can you focus on the activity. Find a place that is best suited for meditation. Sit with your spine straight in alignment with your head. Relax your palms and place them on your lap.

It is imperative to turn off the television, radio and mobile phones to ensure that no noise distracts your focus. The area should be peaceful and quiet.

You must then select a mantra to start the meditation once you are comfortably seated. The mantra will help keep your mind calm. The mantra can be any word that you think will help you focus.

Now when everything is set you can begin with your meditation. Once you are set to start the meditation you can repeat the mantra.

If you follow these simple meditation techniques then you will not have any difficulty in mastering meditation quickly even if you are only a beginner. Make it a habit to practice meditation at least once a day and you will greatly benefit from good health.

What does it take for a person to make a real lifestyle change?

No one is perfect, despite how much many of us strive to be on a daily basis. We all have bad habits and we all make mistakes — that’s part of life. We also know that in many cases, these habits and unhealthy factors within our lives need to change, but for most of us, that change isn’t something that happens in the blink of an eye or a snap of the fingers. In fact it can take weeks, or months, or sometimes longer for a person to break a certain habit, such as smoking, excessive drinking, or just being pure lazy. Change requires knowledge, time, and in the case of many, support.

teaching quitters to quit

Take smokers for instance. Hundreds if not thousands of studies have been done and made public that show the consequences of smoking. The harmful effects of smoking are preached to elementary school children. Despite the fact that most of us are aware of these consequences, rarely are they enough to make people change. In fact, even when one personally experiences one of the consequences of smoking, such as a heart attack, decreased cardiovascular and respiratory health and other complications, it still isn’t enough to make some die-hard smokers commit to a lifestyle change. Studies have shown that 40% of smokers who have suffered and survived through a heart attack still smoke despite knowing that the habit, obviously, has negatively impacted their health. The same goes for excessive drinkers, overweight and obese individuals (I weigh 211 pounds and yet here I sit eating Starburst candy while typing this blog entry), and any other bad lifestyle habits. We know that being overweight can increase one’s chances of declining cardiovascular and respiratory health along with the increased risk of having certain disorders such as sleep apnea, a deadly disease that many suffer through on a nightly basis.

One would imagine that after a life or death situation becomes part of ones life that change would almost come instantly, without thought or hesitation. However, studies have proven otherwise. Why are people so reluctant to change? The answer isn’t simple.

“Patients not only have to want to change, they have to know how to change, what behaviors need to be fixed and replaced, and most importantly they need guidance and accountability. Without proper guidance and the accountability of a health professional or trainer, patients will struggle to make a change,” explained Dr. Mark Weiser, a Los Angeles dentist who regularly treats overweight patients for sleep apnea. “If they could lose the weight, many of my patients would cease to have a problem with apnea, but we end up having to treat the apnea for years because they can’t drop the extra weight”

Change can only occur when the patient is emotionally ready to change, but before anyone can really change (emotionally ready or not), proper guidance, counseling, and support must be in place. It is one thing to be aware of the consequences of a harmful lifestyle, but a person’s chances of success in making a lifestyle change go way up when they are given a map as to how to change and have help in walking the path.

Hey, it’s progress. Back off!

Dr. Mark Weiser has two dental practices, one in Los Angeles and one in Santa Barbara. He enjoys helping sleep apnea patients who cannot tolerate CPAP treatment.

We’ve all be at our lowest of lows. What matters is whether or not we stay there. Whether you’ve been recently dumped by that now-unlucky-ex or you have had the misfortune of experiencing an astronomically traumatizing event; you must keep in mind that there are coping mechanisms you can utilize to keep yourself, and others, stable. First, remember that we all have our lows and no one is perfect.

Exercise: When you’re feeling under the weather and like doom is just raining from the heavens on your day. Try getting up and just moving around, staying physically active can take your mind off things that may be tearing you down and it will also aid by releasing positive hormones and chemicals into your brain. Exercise doesn’t necessarily mean lifting heavy weights or doing push ups, it could be as simple as taking a flight of stairs on your way to somewhere instead of the elevator, or just taking a nice bike ride. Not only will a bike ride get you exercise, the fresh air and, if it’s a beautiful day, will enhance your mood as well.

Five Practical Ways to Tackle Depression

Keep Busy: If you are idle and just dormant your mind will begin to wander, often bringing up rather depressing and unsatisfactory thoughts. This can lead to even more and more depression. To avoid this keep busy around the house or wherever you are. Try and pick up a second or even first job if you do not yet have one. Keeping busy can also just be menial tasks such as surfing the internet or dusting your fireplace off and those old picture frames too while you’re at it! Eventually your work will build up momentum and give you a positive sense of achievement and time-well-spent as well.

Keep a Diary or Journal: Even if no one sets eyes upon what you write but yourself, writing down and ranting your thoughts and concerns into a journalized format can be instrumental in relieving depression and stress. If you are angry about a particular consequence or outcome or event, you can rant to your journal and it will never talk back or make you feel bad about what you say. Not only will you be relieved of your problems, you can also get creative and enhance your writing skills with haikus or other poetic writing.

Eat Healthy: The key word here is healthy, if you can put nutritious and healthy food into your body; your body will return the favor of a nutritious and healthy lifestyle accompanied by enjoyably pleasant moods. Your body is your temple and you must maintain it well, if you do not you will get negative repercussions. Eating healthy is not only essential to fight daily depression, but also to fight other problems such as obesity or the likewise.

[ad]

Positive Music: This is probably the most influential mood changer available. The more positive the song the better the mood. If you can listen to songs that you associate with happy memories and good times, or are just up-beat in general; your mood will follow along as well. Avoid songs of previously girlfriends or boyfriends to limit the amount of bad memories. Positive music is essential to a positive mood.

After you’ve climbed over that mountain of emotions that seems to sweep us all from time-to-time, you can finally rest at ease with the knowledge that everything is, and will be ok.

Introduction

Anger is an entirely rational response to many situations and has been an important part of the human psyche for as long as we have walked the earth.

Aristotle, in his seemingly infinite wisdom, astutely points out that: “The person who is angry at the right things and toward the right people, and also in the right way, at the right time and for the right length of time is morally praiseworthy.” There is nothing unnatural about feeling resentment, but there comes a point where the anger response is disproportionate to the situation at hand.

Before we can even begin to look at approaches to anger management, it is important to recognise specifically what anger is and at what level it is regarded a problem, something which can be somewhat difficult to determine.

Anger Management - Causes, Psychology and Solutions

The Physiology of Rage

The biological aspects of what causes anger are not comprehensively understood, though the main school of thoughts holds that it is a natural bi-product of the fight or flight response which is one of the most integral facets of evolution. Whilst the generation of emotions is an extremely complex field of neuroscience, the resulting effect on the body can be obvious to anyone experiencing this emotion.

On a biological level, anger manifests itself with an increased heart rate and blood flow to the hands, as well as adrenal and glucose release. The face becomes flushed, muscles tense, nostrils flare, the jaw clenches and an impulse to strike out can accompany the feeling of aggression.

Although the physiological symptoms of anger vary little from human to human, the term itself can be difficult to quantify as these symptoms can occur to different levels in the individual, as well as reports of their experience. As mentioned, irritation and defensiveness is an entirely natural response to many situations. However, when anger boils over into outward displays of physical aggression or self-destructive behaviour this can be deemed as a problem to be managed.

Recognising Anger Issues

The following are potential indicators of serious anger problems:

- Have you ever broken an object (glass, picture frame etc.) through sheer frustration, possibly due to an argument?

- Have you ever been surprised at how angry you’ve become?

- Do those close to you go out of their way to avoid conflict with you?

- Have you ever used profane language towards someone during an argument?

- Do small things annoy you, such as waiting in line?

- Have you ever harmed yourself, either on purpose or by accident, whilst angry?

- Have you ever made physically threatening behaviour towards someone, such as raising a hand or shaken a fist, even if you had no intention of being violent?

- Do you regularly find yourself growing angry when thinking about wrongs done to you in the past?

- Do you often bring up past issues when arguing with your spouse or close friends?

- Have you ever been sleepless at night through worrying about confrontations which occurred during the day?

You do not have to display all of these characteristics in order to have a potential anger issue, and there are many more which are not covered in the list above.

Managing Anger

Whether you have a physically destructive relationship with anger or would like to improve your mental well being, anger management is a good way of increasing self-awareness. The following tips can be used by anyone and can promote positive thinking:

- When involved in an argument, instead of being accusatory try expressing your emotions in the first person. Simply, instead of saying something like “You should have cleaned the kitchen,” try “I’m annoyed that the kitchen isn’t tidy.” It is surprising how this slight change in focus can help both parties address the issues at hand.

- Don’t storm out of a situation, but recognise that sometimes the best option is to take some time out. Calmly announce your intention to take ten minutes out, then go spend some time on your own. While doing so, try thinking about possible solutions to the problem rather than why that problem is making you mad. If you can’t manage that, think about anything other than the argument, even if it’s just singing your favourite song out loud or in your head.

- Ask yourself this of the object of your anger: will this matter in a year’s time? Ninety-nine times out of a hundred it will not, and this will help put things into perspective.

- Do not ‘vent’ your anger; many purport that punching a pillow or screaming at a wall is a good outlet for releasing rage. In actual fact, this only increases the biochemical processes which made you angry in the first place since your brain cannot distinguish between you fighting for your life and attacking a duvet.

- Know your triggers and take steps to avoid them. Sometimes, even just recognising what makes us livid can go a long way to deconstructing the anger which can follow.

Some of these tips will work on some but not on others, so don’t despair if you have difficulty at first. However, if repeated attempts to come to grips with anger fail, it is advisable to consult a health care professional.

[ad]Health experts of the world are concerned about the ever increasing number of patients suffering from depression.

1. Get some light! During the winterperiod, there are many days that the sun doesn’t shine, so you will need other ways to get the full-spectrum light that your body needs. Go to the lightbulbstore nextdoor, and look for bulbs that are advertised as “full spectrum light” bulbs. Use these instead of your regular bulbs, and enjoy a dose of sunshine in your home!

They are available in both florescent and incandescent bulbs. Exposing yourself to a “full spectrum” light for 20 to 30 minutes as soon as you wake up in the morning will help start your day off right. It’s a real mood lifter, as it stimulates hormones that make you happy. Some brands have understood this, and brought a whole range of life-lights onto the market, suchs as light-balls that can change in intensity and color, alarmclocks that start with their lights about 30 minutes before you have to get up, and much much more like that.

[ad]2. Try eating nuts! Nuts and seeds contain Omega-3 fats, which is an essential nutrient for your health, and for a happy brain. As little as just a daily handful of walnuts will help combat the winter blues. Another great provider of Imega-3′s are Flax seeds. Be reminded that if not ground, the flax seeds may benefit the colon, but the Omega-3′s will stay bound up inside the hard shell, and thus not giving you brain benefit. But no worries, a small coffee grinder does a great job of grinding them.

3. Daily exercise. Believe it or not, but a daily walk can do wonders for your spiritual health. Try getting out for a walk during your favorite time of day. If that is when the sun is shining, your walk gives you double benefit, with the light, or even triple, due to the pleasure of the sun. But, don’t think the soothing effects of a nighttime walk don’t exist, it can do wonders too. Walking in the moonlightcan be very relaxing and is a great wonderful mood lifter.

4. Try to eat plenty of whole grains, nuts and seeds, fruits, and vegetables. All these are very much needed, and are the core ingredients of a healthy lifestyle. Keep these as the main ingredient of the meals you eat, and use the other regular ingredients, such as meat, more as an addition, not the main part of the meal. This will result in you being less tired, in a better mood, and generally feeling better.

5. Try being a boy-scout. Not meaning you have to climb trees and wear a short all day, but try to do one good deed a day. Deliberately do something nice for someone else every day. Doing good to others, makes you feel good about yoursel, and you’ll find that your mind is taken off yourself and your blues.

6. Listen to your favorite music! Music is a great mood enhancer, especially certain types of music. Classical music has been shown to enhance mood, but also other genres can really get you going again. Just make sure you do not listen to deathrock, gothic, new wave and the likes, as those will not really increase your good mood…

7. Drink more tea. Tea relaxes the muscles that cause tension. It also sends signals to your body to relax. It helps you drift away from your worries and stresses, and makes you enjoy. And, if you drink green tea, there are even more additional benefits, as you can read in our article about the health benefits of green tea.

This is the result of a worldwide experiment on 26.000 people, all over the world, executed by the condomcompany Durex. 70% even said that an orgasm is the highest happiness one can reach. Most often, women reach this happiness less easily then men. Four out of five men say they can reach a climax without any problems. For women this is only two out of five. Almost one woman out of five never orgasms when making love. It is also proven that masturbation can help women (and men where needed) to explore their body and how it reacts to different stimuli, in order to orgasm easier.
